Comfortable Home Based Business
In Sudan married women with means build in-home spaces to take care of themselves and to enjoy the body scrub (Dilka) and body smoke (Dukhan) on a daily basis. If these women are unable to afford to build their own in-home space or live in an apartment building that will not accommodate having an in-home space, then they find a reliable place they can go to get this body treatment on a regular basis.
At Maha Medani Beauty & Health Care we have recreated this home-based health and beauty space as authentically as possible.
About Maha
Maha Medani, Sudanese, who’s childhood started in the UAE some ten years after my father moved to Abu Dhabi (capital of UAE) in 1967. He attended and witnessed the uniting of the seven Emirates, becoming the United Arab Emirates we know today. I feel fortunate to have lived there, learning the culture and traditions along with my own rich, unique Sudanese culture.
I have always loved the special bakhore (incense), special perfumes and as I became older the beauty herbs of both Sudan and the UAE.
As a child I used to burn the bakhore all over the house until there was so much smoke no one could see. When the smoke vanished, the house was left smelling so good for many days, even the walls, the curtains and the furniture kept the scent.
I listened very carefully to the Habobas (Grandmothers) as they told tales and showed us how to take care of ourselves using nature and natural methods. I love to take care of myself, I love to smell good and to take care of my skin using what I learned from the Hobobas.
Yes, in Sudan, women take good care of themselves using only what nature provides. We infuse wood with oils and other natural ingredients and use it as perfume, body cream, and hair oil. We use the wheat flour to make a body scrub and the Arabic gum to vanish wrinkles (also known as gum Sudani), Sudan is the world’s largest producer. We use henna to dye our hair and tint our brows, coloring our hands and feet, I love our culture because it is all-natural.
I came to the United States in June 2017 with my two daughters and despite having an MBA and ten years of experience with the United Nations I struggled finding suitable employment.
I am however a believer and I knew there is something out there for me bigger than a job.
When I wear our oil-infused traditional creams, people often admire the scent and ask me what I’m wearing and from here my business began.
I launched Maha Medani Beauty & Healthcare, in 2019 in Silver Spring, Maryland with plans to launch our Dubai location by 2025. We provide unique and refined services for the body, mind and spirit. We offer body creams, body smoke, natural wheat flour scrub, Arabic gum face mask and facials all using the Haboba’s recipes.
